Herb Carter | Board Member

Herb Carter serves as a member of the Board of Directors for The Campaign for College Opportunity. He is currently a member of the Board of Trustees for the California State University, appointed in 2004 by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Previously, Carter was Acting President of  California State University, Dominguez Hills; a Trustee Professor at Dominguez Hills; and President and Chief Executive Officer of United Way of Greater Los Angeles.

Carter served the CSU's Office of the Chancellor in a number of capacities, first as Systemwide Affirmative Action Officer; then Assistant Executive Vice Chancellor; Vice Chancellor, Administration; and, finally, Executive Vice Chancellor. He also worked as Executive Director of the Los Angeles Commission on Human Relations.

Carter has served in a range of community service organizations, including as a Regent for Loyola Marymount University; member of the Citizens Advisory Committee on School Integration for the Los Angeles Unified School District; member and vice chairman of the Board of Directors for the California Achievement Council; member of the National Task Force on Minority Achievement in Higher Education; member of the Board of Councilors for the University of Southern California; and as member of the Board of Directors for Pacific Enterprises and for Golden State Mutual Life Insurance.

Carter received his bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of Arkansas, Pine Bluff; and his DPA in Public Administration from the University of Southern California.
