Roberta Furger | Board Member

Roberta Furger coordinates PICO California’s statewide education work. Her responsibilities include supporting the education work of local affiliates through training and research, developing partnerships, coordinating education-related grants and projects, and representing PICO and its affiliates at the state level to advocate for a quality education for every California student.
Furger represents PICO California on several state committees and partnerships, including the Data Advisory Committee convened by Governor Schwarzenegger and Superintendent O’Connell to work with McKinsey & Company around the development of the state’s next-generation education data system, the advisory committee of the Center for the Future of Teaching and Learning, and the California Department of Education’s advisory group related to the school accountability report card. She has spoken on behalf of PICO, parents and community members throughout the state at several state and national hearings and convenings on education.
Prior to joining PICO California, Furger was the executive editor at The George Lucas Educational Foundation, where she researched and produced documentaries and Web features and wrote articles on a wide range of K-12 education issues. She has been researching and writing about K-12 education issues for more than 15 years, including a book and numerous national magazine articles. Furger has spent considerable time in schools throughout the country in support of this work.
