I'm One in a Million College Scholarship Contest
The Public Policy Institute of California forecasts that we need an additional one million college graduates in our state by 2025 to maintain our quality of life, remain competitive, and meet workforce needs. And that’s not even the whole story. Jobs that require more than a high school education but less than a four-year degree -- “middle skill” jobs -- will represent 43 percent of all job openings between 2006 and 2016, according to a recent California Edge Campaign report. The demand for middle skill employees will put a greater emphasis on the need for vocational credentials, industry certification and two-year associate degrees.
Because each student who successfully completes college is "one in a million," The Campaign for College Opportunity is proud to sponsor the One in a Million scholarship contest. The contest invites all currently enrolled college students in California to:
Contest prompt: Tell California leaders why you and your peers are one in a million and why they should support college opportunity to help you reach your college dream.
Answers to the prompt should address the role you believe that you and your peers play in becoming one of those million necessary degrees that California needs in the future, and what state leaders can do to ensure you have the opportunity to achieve your goals. Feel free to include your personal experiences or those of your peers that discuss the current crisis in higher education.
A minimum of 20 scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,000 will be awarded throughout California.
