Community groups around California are getting involved in the Campaign for College Opportunity. Community-based organizations share a basic mission: to improve the quality of life in their community. Whether working on the need for affordable housing, better schools, safer streets or more jobs, community groups around California are concerned with the opportunities available to their residents. At a time when California’s population, especially our young population, is becoming increasingly diverse and the state’s workforce is demanding greater levels of training, we must provide all Californians with the opportunity to go to college. This was the promise of the Master Plan for Higher Education, adopted by California leaders in 1960. Keeping this promise is one of the most important ways to provide equal opportunity and provide for a better life for Californians today. Turning students away from our community colleges and universities is simply not acceptable.
The Campaign for College Opportunity works with community-based organizations, civil rights groups, ethnic organizations and many others to keep California’s promise of college opportunity. Find out how your organization can help and check out a partial list of our endorsers.
“The raising cost of going to college and the ability to pay for it must be addressed in a pro-active manner. The Campaign for College Opportunity will provide a forum to address these issues, as it relates to children of color.” – Douglas Oden, president of the San Diego branch of the NAACP |
