THE CAMPAIGN FOR COLLEGE OPPORTUNITY PROUDLY PRESENTS THE WINNERS
OF OUR "SAVE ME A SPOT IN COLLEGE" SCHOLARSHIP CONTEST!

The "Save Me a Spot in College" youth scholarship contest gave 6th- to 12th-grade students across the state of California the opportunity to express themselves to California leaders through various media to highlight the importance of college opportunity.

The theme of the contest was: Why should California leaders save you and your peers a spot in college?

An unprecedented 9,000 California youth from every region in the state responded with written word, poster and TV ad entries that call on California leaders to keep the promise of college opportunity for all qualified students as stated in the 1960 Master Plan for Higher Education. In total the Campaign is awarding $70,000 in scholarships to 107 winners from across California.

HELP THE CAUSE - MAKE A DONATION

The Campaign has recently launched an effort to raise $100,000 to support this round of the "Save Me a Spot in College" contest. Each donation of $10, $25 or more will be doubled through a generous grant from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. Your donation can give these students a jumpstart on their college careers, help highlight their entries in their communities and publicize the need and demand for expanded college opportunity for our young people.

We need your help to raise money for:

$20,000 for additional scholarships: We initially received $50,000 from the Education Financing Foundation of California to fund scholarships to more than 40 winners across the state, but because of the tremendous response from the young people of California, we have decided to award 40 additional $500 scholarships.

$40,000 to send materials to each of the more than 8,000 students who entered the contest: Each entrant will receive a certificate of participation, a guidebook about college, financial aid information to help them go to college, as well as information on how they can remain involved as a voice for college access.

$20,000 to print posters, publish a book of selected entries, and make DVD copies of TV ads: These materials will be distributed to legislators, statewide officials, colleges, high schools, community organizations and others for outreach and educational purposes.

$20,000 for a newspaper ad and radio ads: This will help the Campaign publicize the "Save Me a Spot in College" message to Californians.

We need your help California!

THE CAMPAIGN FOR COLLEGE OPPORTUNITY

The Campaign for College Opportunity is a California nonprofit created to ensure that the next generation of Californians has the chance to go to college as promised by the 1960 Master Plan for Higher Education. California is experiencing a large growth in the 18 - 24 year old population, which will strain the ability of the state to keep its promise. Working together with parents, teachers, community leaders, and students we can help California keep the college promise.
