The Next One
Look how far we have gone,
The female race,
From the last people to vote to Secretaries of State,
From silenced voices to renowned speakers.
The women who made this possible,
They broke barriers and stereotypes,
Ignored by society’s views on women,
Took bold steps of necessary improvement.
Their names are engraved,
In the stones of time,
For all to see,
And inspire the young women of today’s America.
My name will be up there one day,
For future posterity to look upon,
To see that even a small town girl,
With motivation and drive can accomplish the
Unthinkable.
The road will be coarse and narrow,
And my footing won’t always be stable,
But I’m ready to alter history,
All I need is the education to get there.
So move on over Susan B. Anthony,
Scoot down a little Jane Adams,
Make some room for my name,
Because I have the determination to get it out there.
And Hilary Clinton,
Don’t get too comfortable either,
Because I’ll be right there,
Contending you for the title of first female president.
When my education,
The final piece of my life puzzle,
Falls into place.
