"I am the generation that will make tomorrow. It's me and my peers, in your footsteps we'll follow." – from Bieber student Hattie Wimer’s contest winning poem.

In the 2008 "Save Me a Spot in College" Scholarship Contest, where thousands of students enter from all over the state, Hattie Wimer's "Dream and Success" poem shone through.

She recently won one of the six $2,500 grand prize scholarships in the statewide scholarship contest which awarded scholarships to 200 middle and high school students around the state. 12,000 students entered the Contest this year.

Hattie's message was clear, "So help me California, to get to that place, where dreams and success meet face to face."

As a grand prize winner, Hattie is not resting on her laurels. In September 2008 she started at Lassen Community College in the hopes of becoming a large animal veterinarian.

"In high school, I was active in FFA and basketball, but what I really love is rodeo!" Competing in Barrel Racing and Pole Bending events, Hattie plans to carry this love to college as well. By writing her winning poem, she helps to inspire other students struggling get to college. She also inspires her siblings, as she is the oldest and therefore first to go to college.
