I should be saved a spot in college because I want to become a doctor, neurosurgeon to be exact. That's where college comes in. My reason to become this goes back several generations of a congenital disorder. It has many of my family members.
My name is Alexandrea I'm an eighth grader at harden middle school. To become a doctor for me is personal. There is a family history of AVM (Arteriovenous malformation) found in the brains. It is connections between veins and arteries in the vascular system. The genetic transmission patterns of AVM (if any) are unknown, and AVM is not generally thought to be an inherited disorder -- unless in the context of a specific hereditary. My parents have five kids out of those five children three have been diagnosed with an AVM two of which have been operated on and one that is inoperable.
After three MRIs it has been determined that my sister and I don't have an AVM. This doesn't mean that we are not career's of it. In becoming a neurosurgeon it would give me a better understanding of this disorder.
I would like to be apart of finding the connections of an AVM. Every time I research it I get the same thing unknown of what the connections are. There is a speculation of why my family has it and it goes way back generations ago. There speculation is that perhaps my ancestors from working in the fields were exposed to agricultural chemicals which my have mutated a neurological gene. This is just a speculation the doctors have told us but like I said already, it's really unknown. In becoming a doctor I want to help my family and many of the other people out there with the same condition.
California leaders please save me a spot in college so I can be the doctor that finds the cure or connections in a family of where AVM run. This disease hurts the people with it but also hurts all those around them to. I think I wasn't given this disorder so I could be the person that solves the mystery. Whether you save me a spot or not I will become a doctor and then a neurosurgeon that finds the unknown part of an AVM. I will succeed in my goal or die trying but I won't give up. |
