Our Voice

The question is asked often a lot,
What makes you worthy of saving a spot?
Not only can I answer it with my knowledge and heart,
But I will get to the end and achieve it as well as I start,
I never really realized how lucky I am,
To have come in this time period, right now after a brave man.
A man with courage and a man with power,
Martin Luther King was the root and seed that started this flower.
A flower that has grown and has many different pedals.
A slower that wouldn’t be half as beautiful with only one color.

I’d like to think too that I am ready to make a change.
I’m tired of the stereo types of black as violent, uneducated people in gangs.
I am very bright and you won’t see on the streets or in jail my face.
Not only me but my peers are ready to change today.
Saving a spot in college will not only help built us self esteem and raise our spirit,
But also bring up our hopes, that we can do it.
We are the next generation and so far the ones who will be the next to rule.
And the last thing that should happen is that you pass it down to a whole bunch of fools.

We are only kids now, but we too have a voice.
The children have spoken, and you need to listen, there is no choice.
We have played our hand of the game, by going to school and gaining knowledge.
It’s your turn now; please save us a spot in college.
