RULES

JUDGING
Entries will be evaluated based on the following criteria, in no particular order: accuracy of information, effectiveness of message, artistic skill, ability to attract and hold attention (i.e. creativity, uniqueness and humor), clarity of your point of view/hearing your story.

Based on the number of entries, the Campaign will set the final number of scholarships in each category and by grade level before judging begins. All entries will be reviewed and judged in a preliminary round.  Entries chosen in the preliminary round will move onto a second round of judging, where Grand Prize nominees will be selected in each category.  From the pool of Grand Prize nominees, a least one Grand Prize winner will be selected for each contest category.

Judges shall have full and complete discretion to make any decisions of interpretation, and final word on all matters. All decisions are final. Judging will include Campaign staff, outside judges, and potentially internet judging at the Campaign's discretion.

SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS
We are giving away a total of $100,000 in scholarship awards to more than 100 winners across California!  Each category will have at least one Grand Prize Winner who will be awarded a $2,500 scholarship.  Additionally, there will be 100 other students from all three categories that will receive scholarships ranging from $500 - $1,000.  Each category will have both middle school and high school winners.  All winners will be announced in May 2008.

The number of scholarships awarded, by category and age, will be determined by the total number of entries for each category and by the age of entrants. No one person can win more than one scholarship award or prize of any type.

A scholarship account will be opened in the name of each winner in a professionally managed account under the supervision of either a non-profit organization, state-sponsored scholarship program, or financial institution selected by the Campaign for College Opportunity.  Scholarship funds will not be given directly to students or their families at the time winners are announced.  Scholarships will be made available to students or directly to their college or other postsecondary educational institution according to the rules of the designated scholarship programs when the student enrolls.
