Rules :: Written Word
- All entries must answer the contest question "Why should California leaders save you and your peers a spot in college?"
- Each student may submit one entry per category (written word, poster, TV ad).
- Written word entries must be submitted by individuals only - no group entries in this category will be accepted.
- Written word entries may take any form: essay, story, poem, song lyrics, letter or any other format as long as the contest question is addressed.
- Submissions must be 400 words or less. We suggest that you count the words in your entry (or use the "word count" tool in your word processor) to make sure it does not exceed this limit.
- Cut and paste your entry directly into the Entry Form online! We strongly prefer that you submit your written word entry online. Type and save your written word entry before-hand, then cut and paste it into the space provided on the online Entry Form.
- If you are unable to submit your entry online, you may mail it to our office with a copy of your completed Entry Form stapled to your entry and your name, grade, phone number, and school written on the top of every page. Only typed and entries written in pen will be accepted. Do NOT write your entry in pencil. If you do not have online access, you may call 1-800-459-9586 to have a paper Entry Form mailed to you.
- You may NOT turn in your written word entry through email. NO EXCEPTIONS.
- Written word entries will not be returned under any circumstances. We encourage you to save a copy before you turn it in.
- If you are 12 or younger you must have your parent or legal guardian sign your Entry Form before mailing it to us. If you submit your written word entry online you must still mail in a signed Entry Form post-marked by March 15th to be considered.
