Susan Vang, an 8th grader at Terronez Middle School in Fresno Unified School District speaks to students, reporters, and school officials at the District's ECC launch. The audience included 6th, 7th, and 8th graders from district middle schools, District Superintendent Michael Hanson (pictured at right), FUSD Board President Valerie Davis, and CSU Trustees. |
My name is Susan Vang; I am an 8th grader at Terronez Middle School. On behalf of my fellow students, I want to thank you, Superintendent Hanson and the Campaign for College Opportunity for supporting the young students of California.
The Early Commitment to College program is effective because it helps us to understand exactly what to do in order to get to college.
It is easy to talk about going to college, and it is not enough just to say, "Yeah, I will to go to college."
One has to actually take many important early steps to make it happen.
The good news is that this program gives us the motivations to make our college dreams happen. To make college a reality, we as students must make early commitments and take necessary steps to prepare for college.
My future goal is to become a health-care professional, working to improve the health of people. In order to reach my goal, I need to attend college. So, by signing my "Save Me a Spot in College" I pledge to meet all graduation requirements, enroll in college prep courses, and pass the STAR test, I will be a step closer to reaching my goal.
Once again, I would like to thank our leaders for their support and investment in our future and success.
Thank you!
