The surging young population in California has been working itself up the school system pipeline and is reaching college age. In our K-12 schools, educators are working hard to prepare students for college. And in our community colleges and universities, leaders are expanding access to make higher education available for these students.

At the K-12 level, the Campaign for College Opportunity works with teachers, students, parents, counselors, principals, superintendents and school board members who are committed to their students pursuing their academic and vocational goals in our community colleges and universities. Many of these leaders are trying innovative strategies to prepare students for college and inform them of their higher education options. They want a place in college for their students.

In higher education, we work together with faculty, staff, students, college presidents, trustees, and others to build support for expanding enrollment and to improve campus and systemwide practices that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of higher education.

There is a deep reserve of public support for college opportunity. But we can not take this for granted. Education leaders need to join with others to extend the promise of college opportunity to the next generation. We welcome your involvement in the Campaign.

“One of the greatest challenges I face as a community college president is trying to accommodate Californians who need the opportunities that community college can offer. Years of underfunding, budget cuts and reductions in classes have forced institutions to turn away thousands of students each year. California’s colleges and universities are gateways to California’s economic health. Access to them should be one of the state’s top investments.” – Dr. Constance M. Carroll, chancellor, San Diego Community College District
