The Campaign for College Opportunity works with labor unions and labor leaders concerned about college access for their members and for all families in California. California’s community colleges and universities offer apprenticeships, vocational training and degree programs important to our state’s workers and our children.

Since 1960, when the Master Plan for Higher Education was adopted, Californians could count on a quality higher education within reach at community colleges and universities throughout the state.

Today, California’s economy depends more and more on a trained workforce. At the same time, we have a rapidly growing young population and growing demands for job training for adult workers. Unless we work together to expand access to college for all Californians, the state can face a future with fewer opportunities and growing inequality.

Working families in California face many challenges. A closing door to college should not be one of them. Whether you are involved in your union at the local, county or state level, please contact us to get involved.

“Millions of Californians are working long hours and still can’t afford a decent quality of life for their families. We have to provide educational opportunities, and especially the chance to go to college, to help meet this crisis.” – Eliseo Medina, executive vice president, Service Employees International Union
