The Campaign for College Opportunity hosted a conversation via telephone conference call on July 2, 2007 with nearly 100 participants to hear a report on the status of the Basic Skills Initiative.  Co-hosted with California Tomorrow, the event gave Mark Wade Lieu, the new President of the Academic Senate of the California Community Colleges, a chance to share a report on the progress of the intitiative and what lies ahead in the coming year.

The Basic Skills initiative is a major reform strategy to strengthen instruction and delivery of services to the large number of community college students who enter below college-level proficiency in English and Mathematics.
